Welcome to Grade 3!! :)

I hope that everyone has had an amazing summer with family and friends and that they are pumped to be back at this wonderful school for some more learning. This year we will be exploring the Fruit of the Spirit as our theme. As a class, I look forward to learning more about what it means to actually live a life for Jesus that sets us apart through our words and actions. Please keep these notes in mind:

Grade 3 is Nut Free this year! That means no food containing any sort of nut or nut product is allowed in the classroom (please keep this in mind with baking as well i.e. almond milk, flour, etc.). In addition, students may NEVER share their lunches or snacks with one another. Some important facts to keep in mind: 1. Skor bits contain nuts. 2. Sunflower seeds are quite often roasted in peanut oil 3. Coconut products are nut free! I appreciate all of your cooperation.

We will have gym class on Tuesday and Thursday of every week. Students do not need to change clothes, but they do need non-scuff inside shoes (running shoes, not dress shoes) for this.

Library will be on Friday.  Please help your child remember their library books.

Spelling tests will be every Thursday and Memory Work is tested every Friday morning. Please have your child spend some time the previous nights studying for these tests.

I ask that you read out loud with your child for at least 15 minutes when he/she is assigned some reading homework. Your child will take a reader home those evenings with pages assigned for them to read. I can provide you with a list of questions to ask your child before, during and after reading if desired. Homework assignments will be recorded in the student’s agenda.  If your child is having difficulty with the amount of work given, concentrate on less - quality is better than quantity. The readers and agenda should be returned each morning to facilitate continuous learning.

I ask that special care be given to all readers so that they will last a long time.  If any reader is damaged beyond the shape the book was received in or lost and requires replacement, a fee will be charged to cover the cost of the new book.  To help you keep all readers in excellent shape, each child will receive a bag to store their readers in.  This will help avoid dog ears, ripped covers and wet pages.

Other work may occasionally come home if it has not been completed in class.  Please note that there is not a lot of homework for grade 3, other than continual reading practice.

The students will also embark upon the inaugural “Read Across Canada” program this year. This comprehensive, incentive-based reading program will start the beginning of October, 2015. A letter and more details will follow.

I have also started a classroom blog http://grade3rehoboth.blogspot.ca/  . I will post updates about the classroom from time to time as well as spelling lists and other homework assignments. I also hope to start a class instagram account. This will be a private account that only allows parents to access the pictures. Look for updates on the blog.

Your child is required to bring a note stating your permission if he/ she is allowed to make a purchase at the Tuck Shop.

Thank you!
